Ambika Soni justifies notice to Colors for 'Bigg Boss 3'

Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Ambika Soni has defended the issuance of the notice to Colors for Bigg Boss 3 on grounds that the programme had been seen by an Inter-Ministerial Committee that also comprises members of the Women and Child Development and other ministries.

When asked about what action would be taken against the channel, the minister said that it was too early to say that as the notice was sent earlier this week and the channel had not replied so far to the show-cause notice.

Answering questions on the sidelines of a function to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Directorate of Field Publicity, Soni countered a question about Colors being a family channel saying that the Cable Television Networks
(Regulation) Act 1995 and the Programme Code under which the notice was issued was applicable to all channels.

The notice by the I & B Ministry had asked the channel to explain within five days why the show Big Boss 3 should not be taken off air for vulgarity. The third season of the reality show that is hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan, received the notice under Section 6 and other sections of the 1995 Act for 'offending good taste' and also for the use of vulgar language.
